TOURNAMENT FORMAT

4 Game Guarantee Tournaments -- a blind draw with be done and teams will be placed into brackets to play a three-game Round Robin on Friday and Saturday based on that draw. Single elimination play will begin on Sunday. A 4 Game Guarantee format is just that, a format -- not a guarantee of 4 games in the event of inclement weather or other adverse conditions.

SEEDING: Teams will be seeded for single elimination play based upon the following round robin play results:

1. Best Record        2. Head to Head         3. Fewest Runs Allowed        4. Coin Flip

NSA also uses a three game minimum format and double elimination format. Teams will be placed in these brackets by a tournament draw conducted by the tournament director.

ALL TEAMS MUST HAVE THEIR ROSTER ENTERED ONLINE PRIOR TO PLAY IN ANY NSA TOURNAMENT. All teams must turn in a copy of their signed roster and a copy of their proof of NSA Westpoint insurance to before their first tournament game. The tournament director will purchase a tournament insurance policy for any team that does not carry NSA Westpoint insurance. Teams must turn in a copy of their properly filled out roster (entered online, printed out, and signed by parents) and their team insurance and have birth certificates available for review by the tournament director at all times during the tournament. PLAYERS CANNOT BE ADDED TO THE ROSTER DURING THE TOURNAMENT ONCE PLAY HAS BEGUN IN A WORLD SERIES QUALIFIER.

IN THE EVENT THERE ARE AN ODD NUMBER OF TEAMS IN AN AGE DIVISION, the tournament director will decide if the host team will play the extra game needed in pool play or can request a volunteer from all teams in the age division. If no one volunteers, the host team will have to play the extra game. If there is no host team and no one volunteers, a team will be selected randomly to play the extra game. Regardless of who plays the game, in a Pay As You Play Tournament the tournament host will pay the umpire fee for the team playing their 4th round robin game (their opponent pays their own umpire fee). At the conclusion of all pool games, including the extra game, one game will be selected randomly from all of the games played by the team playing the extra game and that game will not count toward the seeding of the team playing the extra game. For example, in a 4 game guarantee tournament with an odd number of teams, one team will play 4 pool games, and after all 4 pool games are played one will be picked randomly and will not count toward that team's seeding. Although the game chosen will not count for seeding for the team playing the extra game it will count for their opponent's seeding.

ALL TEAMS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPORTING ALL GAME SCORES TO THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR

GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME (15 min. grace 1st time slot of day only). IF A TEAM FORFEITS TWO OR MORE ROUND ROBIN GAMES, THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY IN THE SINGLE ELIMINATION PORTION OF THE TOURNAMENT

NO TIEBREAKER IN ROUND ROBIN PLAY AFTER TIME LIMIT -- GAMES CAN END IN TIE IF TIME LIMIT HAS EXPIRED

THE HIGHEST SEEDED TEAM WILL HAVE CHOICE OF HOME OR VISITOR DURING SINGLE ELIMINATION PLAY ON SUNDAY

ALL GAMES WILL CONSIST OF 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES -- TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR CAN USE EITHER NO NEW BATTER OR NO NEW INNING WILL START AFTER THIS TIME FOR ROUND ROBIN PLAY. ALL BRACKET PLAY WILL USE 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES, FINISH THE INNING AFTER TIME IS UP.

NOTE: Tournament Championship Games will have no time limit.
NOTE: When FINISH THE BATTER TIME LIMIT is used, if the home team is not up at bat and ahead at the drop dead time, the score will revert back to the last completed inning. If the home team is up at bat and ahead then the score at the drop dead time is the final score. Stalling by either team will not be tolerated.

WORLD SERIES BERTHS

Please refer to the World Series Berth Matrix to determine the number of berths to be awarded for each age group. If the first place team has already qualified for the World Series in a previous tournament, that berth may then be awarded to the second place team, provided there are a minimum of 6 teams in the age division. Berths will be passed down solely at the discretion of the State Youth Director.

Any team wishing to activate their World Series berth must play in their NSA State Championships, unless the tournament is full at the time they earned their berth. In this case, they must be placed on a waiting list and be available to fill a slot up to 1 week before the tournament. Northeast NSA will make every effort to accommodate every team wishing to play in the State Championships.

EQUIPMENT
All tournaments will use optic yellow softballs with the NSA logo.
All bats must be listed on the NSA approved bat list -- coaches are responsible for verifying bats used.

RUN RULE (MERCY)
Northeast NSA will use a modified Run Rule (Mercy Rule) for all Pool Play games utilizing the FINISH THE BATTER TIME LIMIT unless noted in the individual tournament rules. Northeast NSA will use a 10 and 8 run rule. If one team is 10 or 8 runs ahead after 4 or 5 innings respectively, or after 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 innings if the home team is ahead by 10 or 8 or more runs respectively, the team with the 10 or 8 run lead shall be the winner (modification of Rule 5, Section 3(a)exception).
